We’re Back

It’s been a frustrating, albeit in some ways, rewarding year so far…….

After the Christmas day “flood” from a broken water pipe, our store was in disarray. Almost half of our space was unusable. If not for Craig’s heroic efforts saving most of the reference room’s equipment, we might not have been able to stay open at all! I was out East, and unavailable, but Craig carried on. He got the water shut off, and contacted a company in the Chicago area who came down, and got water pumped out. In case you’re wondering, none of the local companies were available to help that first week because the extreme cold had created havoc in the C-U area with problems similar to ours. Besides the reference room, our two offices, the service bench area, the lavatory, the conference space, and back storage hallway were under between 1 to 2 inches of water. As I already mentioned, if Craig hadn’t done what he did, we might not have been able to recover. After about a week, we were able to get the local Steamatic company to work with us, and they began the process of repairing and rebuilding our store. This required cutting out drywall, pulling out wet insulation, and mitigating/eliminating possible mold. All the flooring had to be removed. Doors, door jams, shelving, and furniture required repair or replacement. Steamatic’s Andrew and Keith were real life savers, believe me, and their support and expertise put us back in business. It took awhile, but we are now “restored.”
