Nuts…

This morning I was reading the latest issue of one of my two favorite “HiFi” magazines, and it just occurred to me that our industry has lost its collective mind. In all categories (including turntables, electronics and loudspeakers) it is too easy to spend upwards of several hundred thousand dollars on any one component! This is crazy……..

This isn’t to say that there is no value in these less affordable components. It is to say, however, that way too much time and effort is being allocated on insufferably expensive products. Believe me, Glenn Poor’s has sold some very expensive systems over the years, but I’m personally offended with the idea that someone need spend $500,000 on a set of speakers for a typical 18’ by 13’ by 8’ room. There are folks that want to spend stupid money on their music or home theater system, and I am not going to stop them. However, we all need to step back, and realize that there’s more to life than trying to outspend your neighbor - no matter what item you have on your list.

Recently, we (Craig, Kyle, Will, Kavi and I) discussed priorities, and we all agreed that more time needs to be spent “qualifying” a customer’s needs, rather than simply trying to get he/she to spend their maximum budget. In fact, most people have no idea as to what really fits their respective “needs.” Thus, we must do a better job helping a customer define what really works for them. This especially applies to loudspeakers - where certain speaker types may work better in someone’s space than another type that is many times more expensive. This same truth may be the case with amplification and source components. That is why I feel so lucky to have a staff of real pros that understand symbiosis between components.

I promise you that should you visit Glenn Poor’s Audio Video, you’ll be offered the promise of our whole hearted best effort to give you the best “fit” for what ever it is you’re looking for.

I guarantee it,

Geoff
